I graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law, in May 2007. Prior to that I was a paralegal at a large Washington DC law firm and had worked for a foreign exchange company. I went to law school because I had enjoyed my work as a paralegal and I was fascinated by how the attorneys solved legal problems.
In law school, I particularly enjoyed bankruptcy, and it is the focus of my practice, because of the simple problem at the core of all bankruptcy law: what do you do when there are more debts than there are assets available to creditors. I was fortunate in that I was able to undertake in depth studies of not only basic bankruptcy but also chapter 11 reorganizations and theories of bankruptcy law.
Following my graduation from law school, I clerked for the Honorable Bruce A. Markell of United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada and the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. Clerking for a bankruptcy judge is a rapid immersion in every area of bankruptcy law and civil litigation from the application of the automatic stay, to questions of dischargeability, to the development of doctrines of res judicata. My clerkship coincided with the rising mortgage and credit crisis. As a result, much of my year as a clerk was devoted to the fallout from the economic crisis. I have worked on cases involving the stripping off of wholly unsecured junior liens, valuation of real property, adequate protection of secured interests in a falling market, and the relationship between borrowers and mortgage servicers.
In addition, I worked on questions about valuing the cash flow of a services business in the context of chapter 11 plan confirmation. Further, Judge Markell sat on the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel, which allowed me to work on appellate cases as well as bankruptcy court cases.
Since opening my practice in Seattle, I have handled all types of bankruptcies from the most basic chapter 7 to business bankruptcies. A large part of my practice is devoted to using bankruptcy to help homeowners. In addition to bankruptcy practice, I am also a Seattle DUI Attorney.
If you have questions or concerns about your debts, then you may be confident that not only do I have the legal skills to help you, I will be there with you every step of the way.
